Consumers were thrilled when they could wear a shirt or tank top that toned their bodies. Anyone would jump on the opportunity to go about their day without wasting time at the gym. Built-in resistance wear was all the craze for a brief moment in time. That is until people started to get wise to the gimmick. The Federal Trade Commission made an example of Reebok by slapping a $25-million settlement for “deceptive marketing,” and there hasn’t been mention of toning apparel since.
