Shu’em Shamanism

Introduction Shamanism

Shamanism is the oldest science of humanity, in the view of the shamans the world that we see around us consists of many different layers, or fields, of perception. All these fields are closely interconnected and influence each other within overall Oneness.

We can become aware of these different fields of perception by shifting to an altered state of perception. Dreaming is such a shift, in a dream we see a real world. When we wake up this dream world is not less real, we just shifted to another state of perception where this field of dream perception cannot be perceived.

There are many different fields of perception that can be perceived by as many different shifts in perception. The shamans have developed techniques for making these shifts, such as monotonous chanting, recitation, percussion, repeated movement , postures, music, which have survived as elements of rituals of traditional religions of East and West.

Although shamanism is rooted in traditional societies, it still has great value in Western life. A shaman confronts himself with the Great Mystery which is everywhere – in the great mountains as well as in your small apartment in the centre of the city.

Shamanism is very practical. Instead of living by ideas and beliefs of others, one starts to explore one’s own experience.

Shu’em Shamanism
The Shu’em shamans concentrate themselves on those shifts that open fields of perception that are beneficial for healing, in the widest sense of the word.

Shu’em shamanism is a mix between shamanism and mysticism, in which the goal is mystical and the tools are shamanic. Shamanism is the most powerful way to work with energy and attention, 100.000 years of practicing and experiencing has led to very powerful and useful techniques to make a shift in your attention.

Attention is the keystone in inner development, where your attention is focused on, is your reality, give attention to your problem

s and you will have lots of problems. The nature of consciousness is such that it becomes what it is focused on.

With shamanic techniques you can shift your attention to the causal field, the causal field is a certain intensity in your emotions, it is an unconscious state where you only become aware of when you sleep and dream or through a shock. Shamans have found ways to conscious enter and explore this field of deep feelings where the ’causes’ of our emotional state and therefore our experience of life lies.

By rearranging the patterns that rule our life it is possible to make the claims of these disturbing patterns less and dissolve them, then one’s weakness can become one’s strength.

Attention management & meditation

An important aspect of Shu’em Shamanism is attention management. In daily life our attention is more or less always divided, meaning that when we do one thing, our mind and emotions are focused on something entirely different.

Most people who walk in the woods for instance do not even register the woods as such, but walk around chatting to themselves internally. This is so in almost every life situation. Even when having sex, which is a much more intense moment then daily life, we think about other things. Life passes on without us even noticing it and eventually you die with a life not fully lived.

These thoughts and emotions tell you all the time who you are and what everything is in relation to you. All this defining and labeling of what happens is only possible when you compare what happens to what happened before. So all your definitions about yourself and life are all viewpoints from the past and also very often not even your own viewpoints.

All serious spiritual paths state that stopping the internal monologue is the first and most necessary step in developing yourself. When you are constantly filled with your thoughts and emotions there is no room for something else.

Inner freedom means being free from the claims of your definitions of life, this gives you a very different view on life and the experience of it. By using techniques of attention management, the ongoing chatter in one’s head decreases in a relative short time, and one can find a much more balanced and peaceful state from which one can live.
