French Quarter - A glimpse at an amazing New Orleans’s neighborhood rich with culture and heritage

French Quarter- Experience the Splendor of a Historical Neighborhood

Considered as a heritage of the city of New Orleans the French Quarter is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the area much valued for its exceptional architecture. This welcoming locality is also known as Vieux Carré, or simply as The Quarter and is considered to be the city’s cultural hub. Over the time the neighborhood has attracted many prominent figures such as writers, celebrities and business giants due to its unmatched elegance and serenity.

The buildings in French Quarter date back to the time when New Orleans was not part of United States thus, the influence of the Spanish and the French rule are greatly reflected in the city’s architecture. Due to the Great New Orleans Fire most of the French colonial architecture was destroyed and the Spanish rebuilt the city according to their distinct style. Today French Quarter architecture is a blend of French, Spanish, Creole and American styles and due to its development it is also home to many hotels, guest houses and many commercial establishments.

At the center of the French Quarter is the stunning Jackson Square, home to the St. Louis Cathedral and Pontalba buildings. The cast iron balconies in Pontalba houses generated a new trend in French quarter buildings and many mansions started including these elegant terraces. This made the buildings ideal for people-watching and to have a glimpse of all the events happening in the streets.

It is also ideal to visit nearby attractions as the Bourbon Gallery, Gallerie Dart Francais, Martin Lawrence Gallery, Musee Conti Wax Museum, Old Absinthe House, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop, the Napoleon House and Johnny white’s Bar.

A number of hotels in French Quarter offer a unique vacation experience to visitors.
