Hybrid cars are no longer a novelty. The cars are the talk of the town
and there are more users than last year. There is good reason for this
and it’s time to consider these alternative cars.
How Hybrid Cars WorkIt
is easy to understand how hybrid cars work. The term ‘hybrid’ depicts
the fact that these vehicles function with a mix of electric and
gasoline energy. The car has an electric motor and a gasoline engine.
Hybrid cars were born from the need for a mode of transportation that
offered the following characteristics:
- used less gasoline
- provided enough energy to power the car comparable to a gasoline car
- produced less pollution
Hybrid
cars solved these problems. They can consume less gas because they do
not always operate off gasoline engine. Additionally, due to the fact
that the gasoline motor design is somewhat modified, the hybrid lets
off less pollution. The mix of gasoline and electric power makes it
comparable in power to a gasoline car.
Past, Present and FutureIn
older models, too much of the car’s functional system was linked to the
electric motor. The most reliable model only came to life after a
perfect balance was achieved between the electric motor and the
gasoline engine .
Earlier models lacked the power needed to
reach acceptable speeds, so the solution became a restructuring.
Today’s vehicles make use of the gasoline engine whenever more power is
needed, such as accelerating. The electric motor is used during normal
driving conditions and when more power is not needed.
Car
manufactures are producing a whole bunch of their top-selling cars into
hybrid cars and have created some new lines that are 100% hybrid. The
Toyota Prius is one of the best known options of hybrid cars on offer.
Besides cars, the company manufactures vans and even SUV’s in hybrid
models.
With depleting sources for oil, converting to
alternatives such as a mode of transportation that does not use
gasoline is an option we will all face. There will just be no other
option. Gas prices continue to rise and as demand increases, production
naturally decreases. This is the main culprit for the high retail
prices.
Plus, our current forms of transportation are creating
way too much pollution. Our earth is showing signs everyday of damage
provoked by our pollution. It is up to us to make a change to aid in
reducing the damage to the planet we live in. Driving a hybrid is a
good start.
