The Chinese Crested Puppy
The Chinese Crested is one of the newfound exotic dog breeds for owners. A toy, the chinese crested dog is recognized by its short hair. It sports a bald body, majestically featuring a leonine mane (crest) of medium, smooth hair on its head, hocks, pasterns and plume. The "Powder Puff" dog dons silky fur all over its body. Colors range within the basic standard dog hair colors. A full-grown male adult or female will stand up to 11 to 13 inches of height. The Crested resembles in size and body-type to the much-loved Chihuahua.

Small canines are usually very popular among people who live in apartments as they take up little space and are easy to take care of in an urban environment. This puppy generally thrives on a quiet life at home, most particularly in colder climates. Dogs with no hair like this one are not well suited for outdoor living and cold temperatures. So if the Chinese Crested catches your fancy, look for the Powder Puff type with a full hair coat that will help keep your puppy warm during the cold season. Dog-owners living in hot countries will discover that the hairless Crested dog to be ideal, but sunscreen is important if the puppy is exposed to direct sun for any length of the day. Skin allergies are common in this puppy, so be aware of abnormal reactions and treat them promptly at your local vet.
