Google Adsense: Is it worth it?
Its been around for ages now.  When it first arrived, nobody quite knew what to make of it.  It was a whole new science for webmasters and it is rumoured that for a while the two Google gurus found themselves somewhat sweaty at the thought of taking so much money from so many advertisers, keen on the new marketing channel they offered, when at the same time, the Google twosome had a hard time convincing webmasters to join their publisher network.  It was then that Google decided to turn the taps on and concentrate on welcoming the "small potatoes" rather than kneeling at the door of the larger multinationals.

And so Google AdSense grew.  And it kept on growing.  It was unstoppable.  Everybody, from personal blog-owners to small businesses took on AdSense and joined the publisher network. You can barely find a site online that doesn't show AdSense ads (except mine).  And the trend became so trendy that webmasters began to bring to life new sites under their belts just to earn the odd extra buck from AdSense.

And this is where things got silly.  Webmasters now had 50, 100 or more sites each, oozing with pointless or just duplicate content.  Discussion forums sprang to life with webmasters discussing how best to beat the system and get their sites rank high in Google's search engine.  Many did beat the system.  And all in the hope of adding more dollars to their piggy-banks.  And did they?  Yes...for a while.

The feeling I have is that Google AdSense is biting the hand that feeds it.  Google is having to bend backwards to clear up its search engine from such websites which rarely offer the search engine user what he or she is actually looking for.  I urge you to do a quick search of anything you want on Google.  See the results.  The first 20 will rarely give you what you're looking for.

But the question is still this : is it worth it?
Well, if your site manages to attract a few 1,000 visitors per month, i'd say, keep in there.  But don't expect too much of a profit.  With such a huge network of publishers, and with a slowing economy that is holding advertisers' spending cash back, a few cents a day is what awaits you.

But then again, they are still the best option available for the small online entrepeneur.
And there is no doubt that the added cents are a welcome extra pocket money for personal bloggers.
