Businesses without strong credit histories, such as small businesses and startup companies, have limited options when it comes to quickly generating the funds needed to maintain business operations. Bank financed loans are difficult to obtain, most investors require a guaranteed piece of the pie, and making money without spending money is often not an option. Fortunately, using the "take what you've got to get what you want approach", asset-based financing generates the funds a company needs in the short term.

Asset-based financing should be entered into with extreme forethought, as the disadvantages, although small, can weigh heavy on a company that is already struggling financially. The most obvious disadvantage of asset-based financing is the fact that the interest rate is slightly higher than most traditional loans. For a company that needs cash fast, however, this is a small pill to swallow. The most damaging disadvantage to asset-based financing is the fact that the financing is based on a company's current assets, and gives no consideration to what might negatively happen to the company in the future. For example, a company whose assets are worth $1000 today will still be repaying the same loan amount in 3 years even if their assets are only worth $600. This can cause a tight squeeze, increasing costs and cutting into already reduced profits.

Businesses that are just starting out have more than simply office space and utility bills to concern themselves with. Before they ever produce a deliverable that will bring income, they must hire and possibly pay employees, purchase the resources required to produce the deliverables and search for other clients that will allow them to repeat this cycle. Without a history of credit, these businesses have little to back them up when talking to financial institutions regarding start-up funds.

As the old adage goes, it takes money to make money. Entrepreneurs starting a new business know this all too well. But trying to find a cash source can be a marathon of disappointment, with banks demanding collateral, venture capitalists demanding stock, and both offering limited funding. Invoice factoring has changed that for many small business owners. Small businesses can use invoice financing as a business line of credit instead of using a traditional line or a business loan to pay for necessities. Using a factor in place of another entity as a business credit line, business owners can:

Our nose sits in the middle of our face quietly going about its business 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. How much do you really know about its function?

Most people pay little attention to their sense of smell. It just goes about its business identifying, categorizing and memorizing thousands of different odors each time we breath. Every day we breathe an average of 23,040 times and flood our smell receptors with over 238 cubic feet of air, yet rarely do we take any notice unless, of course, it’s an erotic perfume or a dead skunk.
