A Thousand Splendid Women

For the past year, I’ve only read things that speak to personal development and entrepreneurship. Names like Michael Clouse, John C. Maxwell, and Robert Kiyosaki line my bookshelf. However, people like Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra and Ellie Drake soon replaced them. While this reading list may not seem unusual to many, it is quite a change for me. For the past several years, I’ve been a teacher of English and reading. My purpose was to instill the love of reading in students who in the best of times were open and most of the times were indifferent. My goal was to open a world to them that they were unaware existed, to allow them to meet people unlike the ones that live in their world.

Nearly two years ago I happened to be up in Sedona, AZ and I picked up a tiny book about "Intentions". It cost $4, and I didn't even know what it was all about, but I felt I should buy it.

Time...What is Its Value to You

It does not have to be anything major, we don't have to step into their shoes entirely. For instance, whenever my Grandma cooked a meal and had the family for dinner (she was a GREAT cook, by the way) she would always work tirelessly to prepare a meal for everyone to enjoy. There was always a favorite for each person. Mine was no-bake chocolate macaroons. A day or so in advance she would whip up a batch and store them in the fridge in Tupperware containers until my Dad and I would devour them together. I always had to share them with my Daddy, but I didn't mind, it was a special time for both of us, as we raced to see who could eat the most. Coincidentally, he always let me win. When everyone was finished eating, we all got up to help clear the table and as soon as the table was cleared she would make us all sit back down. This was a time for family to come together and share what was going on in each others' lives. A time to "be" a family, and to “enjoy” each others' company, to talk and laugh. She didn’t get to see us as often as she would have liked and she made sure there was time to "visit'. What would MY family be like if I carried on that tradition and ensured that we all spent "family" time together instead of jumping up to get the dishes done and the kitchen cleaned? It seems everyone went their own directions after dinner, usually in a hurry. Time was always short, maybe because I didn’t make the most of it?

Does a Braveheart Global Woman need to justify her longing for sacred silence? We are bombarded with meaningless noises, harried trying to keep up with our daily lives and stressed from dealing with personal worries and anxieties. Do we wonder then, that most of us, secretly and desperately, need to create a space for personal quiet time? Many who have nourished their mind, body and soul with regular periods of silence have found that their lives, their businesses and their relationships were brought to a new level of life experience.

Have you ever wondered where the term “sales pitch” comes from? You have a dozen thrown at you every day, (a few hundred if you watch television.) and depending on how you run your business, you throw a couple of them yourself. But what comes after the pitch? Just like in baseball, you can’t just throw a few balls around and expect to win the game. Like any sport, this game requires patience, practice, a little coordination and some good old-fashioned teamwork. But believe it or not, your business could be as easy as a game of baseball. So grab your peanuts and crackerjacks and get ready for 4 simple steps that will assist you in winning your next big sale!
